Xmas day and my eldest’s birthday; the younger’s was a few days earlier, on the Solstice.

That evening went to Sun Yat Sen Gardens, to photograph the Lantern Festival. Lots of people in attendance, some lovely works installed. All nicely magical, with a sense of what such celebrations might have been like, in a scholar’s garden in 15th century China; reflections of lanterns in waterways, music drifting from an interior room, sound of children’s surprise and delight as they wander from one courtyard to another. The scene lacked only the scent of some delicious feast being prepared in a nearby kitchen to complete.
